Ash Wednesday 2012 marks the end, for three of us at least, as members of the Church of England and the formal start of our joining the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham and the Roman Catholic Church.
I have been a member of the Church of England since I was baptised – before my first birthday. I was confirmed around 13 and have been a server at the altar for much of the intervening years. I am not ordained, I am a lay member.
The other members of our (little) group and a priest, and a gentleman who grew up as a member of the United Reform Church, so we are a reasonably diverse group.
Our reasons and motivations for leaving the CofE and joining Rome are varied and largely personal. It is not with pleasure that we leave, but it is with pleasure that we join.
So now Lent 2012 has started and will end in great sadness on Good Friday (6 April), followed by great joy on 7 and 8 April as we remember the resurrection of Christ our Lord and I wish everyone a peaceful Lenten season.
