Report from today’s Rite of Election

So on a sunny February afternoon, three members of Lancashire Ordinariate Group together with their families joined about 200 others at Lancaster Cathedral for the Rite of Election and Enrolment. At the start of the service, each of us was called, in the name of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham as candidate for the full membership of the Catholic Church. We were warmly greeted by Bishop Campbell and he told us how he admires our courage to make this brave move. It was great to see others in the diocese taking the same step , and there were people from late teens to retirement age, men and women in about equal number, from different races and backgrounds, all seeking to be part of the Universal Church founded by Christ on the rock of St Peter’s faith. We were glad to be there and we sang the hymns with special gusto – ‘Come down O Love Divine’ to Vaughan Williams’ Down Ampney written for the English Hymnal, and the great Welsh tune Blaenwern.

It feels so real now!
